Not quite officially, but basically, I'm done for the year! I have turned in my last two assignments and one group assignment will be turned in. I think this has been my most hectic semester yet...
I took furniture design, which I was rather looking forward to. During the Spring Semester, however, our project is entered into a competition, the Boise Chair Affair. You can enter any type of furniture, not just chairs, so I was excited about that, BUT, the instructors decided that we should all make chairs! I have three in my living room now, I do not need another!! I was a little bummed about that, I really wanted to make a contemporary media center. Well, I made a chair, a HUGE chair, it looks kinda cool, but it is big and not so functional unless you have a big space and lots of room! Also, by the time we completed two other assignments and went through the design phase, we had about 2 weeks to actually make the chair! So that was a bit stressful! Mine was made of steel, so I had it fabricated (thanks Clint!!!), this made it less stressful on me than others had it!
Besides the chair, we had a competition in Studio as well. An Architectural firm sponsored it. The two principals are graduates of the University of Idaho, so we were their testing ground. They would like to make it an annual competition. It was a very intense project and third year Interior Design students were paired with 4th year Architect students to create a new headquarters for YouTube. The firm sent six people down about half way through the project for a midcrit and then three others, plus the two that put the competition together came for our final presentation. There were ten teams total and they chose three finalists. This was on Monday, April 28, on Thursday May 1 the three teams and the two professors flew from Pullman to Seattle at 6:40AM to present to the firm. Pretty intense, they then chose 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. We went out to dinner and flew home at 10:10PM, it was an exhausting day!!! So, my team came in 2nd place, we each received $350.00 for second, the first place winners, Sam and Melissa each received $750.00 and 3rd, Roxanne and Kim, $150.00 each. I don't think they have the results up yet, but if you are interested, you can see each of the projects (at least the top 3, but I think possibly all 10) at their website, the address is: http://www.collinswoerman.blogspot.com/
I haven't heard yet on the internship for this summer, but will keep you posted!!!
